Site Assessment - Protect Yourself and Neighbors

In order to become a Fire-Adaptive Community, it is essential to focus on reducing risk before a wildfire occurs. Mitigation and prevention work sets the stage for fire suppression efforts in the event of a wildfire. Development of plans and activities to become a Wildfire Adaptive Community has involved much collaboration from members of the community, local city departments and policy groups, state government representatives in consultation with federal agencies, and Planning, Zoning, and Sustainability Consultants. The collaboration has resulted in the development of a city-wide master plan, Plan Manitou, which includes risk assessment plans and actions for all natural hazards, as well as codification for new or redeveloped properties within the City. These efforts culminated with the City's first completed Community Wildfire Protection Plan
