Overview

The Historic Preservation Commission reviews plans for building in the Historic District for architectural appropriateness and to ensure the proposal meets the City’s Design Guidelines, which are based on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

Regular Meetings

The HPC meetings every month, on the first Wednesday at 5:30pm. The board meets in-person at City Hall and streams their meetings to YouTube and over ZOOM. Public comment is only allowed in-person.

Meetings are quasi-judicial and are open to the public. Please email the ADA Coordinator at the City Clerk's Office if you need special assistance attending a meeting. You may also call 719-685-2554.

Apply for Membership

The Commissioners, all appointed by City Council, include 7 regular members and up to 3 alternates. Commissioners serve a three (3) year term. They must be residents of Manitou Springs and cannot be City employees, City Council members, or relatives of either group. Applicants for appointment to the Commission should have an interest or training in fields closely related to historic preservation such as:

  • Archaeology/Cultural Resource Management
  • Architecture
  • Building Trades
  • History
  • Landscape Architecture
  • Law
  • Planning
  • Real Estate
  • And more!
